The Philadelphia 76ers have signed Tacko Fall to an Exhibit 10 contract, giving the 7-foot-6 center an opportunity to return to the NBA. He will join the team for training camp and compete for a roster position ahead of the new Basketball season.
Fall has not played in an NBA game since the 2021–22 season. His contract is non-guaranteed, so the signing does not confirm that he will be part of Philadelphia’s regular-season roster. His performance in camp will determine what happens next.
Tacko Fall Joins the Sixers for Training Camp
Philadelphia announced the signing of Tacko Fall along with guard Jameer Nelson Jr. and forward Saint Thomas. All three players are expected to compete for available roster opportunities during training camp.
An Exhibit 10 contract allows the 76ers to evaluate Fall without immediately committing to a guaranteed deal. It could lead to one of several outcomes:
- A place on the regular-season roster
- Consideration for a two-way contract
- A role with the Delaware Blue Coats in the NBA G League
- Release from the team after training camp
Philadelphia reportedly has an open two-way position, but Fall must perform well to be considered for it.
Fall’s Previous NBA Basketball Career
Tacko Fall entered professional Basketball after playing for the University of Central Florida. Although he was not selected in the 2019 NBA Draft, he earned an opportunity with the Boston Celtics.
He played for Boston from 2019 to 2021 before spending the 2021–22 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Fall appeared in 37 NBA games across three seasons, averaging 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds.
His minutes were limited, and he was often used in specific situations. His height and reach made him a useful option near the basket, but adjusting to the speed and spacing of NBA Basketball remained a challenge.
International Experience Before His Return
After leaving the NBA, Fall continued his career in international Basketball. He played in China and joined the New Zealand Breakers in Australia’s National Basketball League.
Across four seasons abroad, he reportedly averaged 11.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 18.1 minutes per game. He most recently played for the Ningbo Rockets in the Chinese Basketball Association.
The increased playing time allowed Fall to gain experience as a regular rotation player. Philadelphia will now assess whether his development overseas can help him contribute at the NBA level.
What Tacko Fall Can Offer Philadelphia
Fall’s size remains his strongest advantage. At 7-foot-6, he can protect the rim, collect rebounds and finish close to the basket. He can also create problems for opponents attempting shots in the paint.
His possible contributions include:
- Rim protection and shot-blocking
- Offensive and defensive rebounding
- Close-range scoring
- Extra size against traditional centers
- Depth during training camp and preseason games
However, Fall must show that he can handle the pace of modern Basketball. NBA centers are regularly asked to defend pick-and-roll plays, move outside the paint and react quickly against smaller lineups.
Competition in the 76ers’ Center Rotation
Fall will face competition for a position in Philadelphia’s frontcourt. Joel Embiid remains the team’s leading center, while Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti are among the other big men available to support him.
The 76ers are unlikely to expect Fall to play a major offensive role. Instead, he will need to prove that he can provide reliable defense, rebounding and efficient scoring in limited minutes.
Conditioning will also be important. A reserve center must be ready to enter a game at short notice and immediately handle a specific defensive or rebounding assignment.
Training Camp Will Determine His Future
The agreement gives Tacko Fall a realistic chance to return to the NBA, but he has not secured a final roster position. Training camp and preseason Basketball will allow Philadelphia’s coaches to evaluate his fitness, mobility and overall fit.
If he performs well, Fall could earn a regular roster spot, receive two-way consideration or remain connected to the organization through the Delaware Blue Coats. If he does not meet the team’s requirements, Philadelphia can release him before the season.
For Fall, this is an important opportunity after several years of international competition. His NBA comeback is not yet complete, but the 76ers have given him a clear path to prove that he is ready for another chance.
