Iga Swiatek continued her strong run in Toronto with a dominant victory over Diana Shnaider, reaching the semi-finals after needing just 64 minutes to complete the match.

The Polish Tennis star defeated the Russian left-hander 6-2, 6-1 in a one-sided quarterfinal. Swiatek controlled the match with a reliable first serve, aggressive returns and strong groundstrokes that gave Shnaider few chances to settle into the contest.

The victory puts Iga Swiatek one win away from the Toronto final and gives the former world No. 1 another chance to make a major statement after a difficult period without reaching a WTA final.

Iga Swiatek Takes Control From the Opening Game

Swiatek wasted little time putting pressure on Shnaider. In the opening game, Shnaider sent a backhand beyond the baseline to give the Polish player an immediate break of serve.

That early advantage allowed Iga Swiatek to play with confidence. She protected her own serve and continued attacking whenever Shnaider gave her an opportunity.

Swiatek later earned another break when Shnaider put a backhand into the net, giving the Polish star a 5-2 advantage. She then served out the set to win it 6-2 in only 31 minutes.

The opening set showed the difference between the two players. Swiatek stayed consistent and made good use of her opportunities, while Shnaider struggled to keep enough pressure on her opponent.

Strong Serving Makes the Difference

One of the biggest reasons behind the result was the quality of Swiatek’s serve.

Iga Swiatek lost only three points behind her first serve throughout the match. That made it difficult for Shnaider to create serious pressure in Swiatek’s service games.

The six-time Grand Slam champion was also effective when returning Shnaider’s second serve. She won 11 of the 16 points played on the Russian’s second delivery.

Some of the key numbers from the Tennis quarterfinal included:

  • Iga Swiatek won 6-2, 6-1
  • The match lasted only 64 minutes
  • Swiatek lost just three points on her first serve
  • She won 11 of 16 points returning Shnaider’s second serve
  • The first set was completed in 31 minutes

Those numbers show how Swiatek controlled important areas of the match. She was difficult to challenge on serve and immediately placed Shnaider under pressure when returning.

Shnaider Finds No Answer in the Second Set

Shnaider needed a strong response after dropping the opening set, but Swiatek continued to control the Tennis match.

At 1-1 in the second set, Shnaider sent a forehand into the net and gave Swiatek another break. That pushed the Polish player ahead 2-1 and gave her another opportunity to increase the pressure.

Swiatek did exactly that.

She produced a powerful forehand winner to secure another break and move 4-1 ahead. With Swiatek controlling the rallies and protecting her serve, Shnaider had very little room to recover.

The match ended with another break when Shnaider sent a forehand long. Swiatek completed the second set 6-1 and secured her semi-final place after just over an hour on court.

Toronto Run Comes at an Important Time

Reaching the Toronto semi-finals is an important result for Iga Swiatek as she works to return to the later stages of major WTA tournaments.

According to the information provided, Swiatek entered Toronto ranked world No. 8 after previously holding the No. 1 position. She had also gone almost a year without reaching a WTA final, with her previous title coming at the Korea Open in Seoul.

For a player with six Grand Slam titles and 26 WTA Tour titles, that period represented an unusual break from regularly competing for championships.

Her performance against Shnaider therefore carries extra importance. It was not simply about advancing in Toronto. Swiatek showed the serving, returning and aggressive Tennis that can make her difficult to stop when she is playing with confidence.

Iga Swiatek Faces a Bigger Semi-Final Test

The level of competition will increase in the next round.

Based on the tournament situation provided, Iga Swiatek will face either Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina or Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova for a place in the Toronto final.

Either opponent would present a different challenge from Shnaider. Swiatek will need to maintain the same consistency that helped her dominate the quarterfinal.

Several areas could be important in the semi-final:

  • Continuing to win a high percentage of first-serve points
  • Putting immediate pressure on second serves
  • Taking early break opportunities
  • Keeping rallies under control from the baseline
  • Maintaining focus if the match becomes longer or closer

The Shnaider match was comfortable, but a semi-final can bring greater pressure. Swiatek will now have to prove that her strong Toronto form can continue against another experienced opponent.

Swiatek Moves Closer to the Toronto Title

Iga Swiatek could hardly have asked for a more convincing quarterfinal performance. A 6-2, 6-1 victory in 64 minutes allowed her to reach the semi-finals without spending too much time on court.

Her first serve was difficult to attack, her returns repeatedly troubled Shnaider, and she converted important opportunities throughout both sets.

For Swiatek, the next match carries even greater importance. A victory would put her back into a WTA final and give her an opportunity to compete for another major Tennis title.

After a period away from championship matches, Toronto is giving Iga Swiatek a chance to change that story. Her dominant victory over Shnaider was another strong step, but the biggest matches of her Toronto campaign are still ahead.
