Jaja Santiago-Minowa made a strong first impression for the Creamline Cool Smashers, giving the Pvl Jaja Santiago story an impressive beginning in the Invitational Conference. However, the star middle blocker believes the team can still reach a higher level as the competition continues.
Santiago-Minowa delivered 19 points in Creamline’s 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20 victory over the Nxled Chameleons at Smart Araneta Coliseum. She converted 17 of 30 attacks while adding one block and one service ace.
Despite her productive Volleyball debut, Santiago-Minowa said she was still adjusting to Creamline’s system. The Pvl Jaja Santiago addition already looks promising, even though she estimated that she was performing at only around 70 percent.
Santiago-Minowa Makes an Immediate Impact
The performance showed why Santiago-Minowa is expected to become an important part of Creamline’s Volleyball campaign. Her height, attacking reach and experience gave the team another reliable scoring option at the net.
| Match detail | Santiago-Minowa’s performance |
| Total points | 19 |
| Attack points | 17 |
| Attack attempts | 30 |
| Blocks | 1 |
| Service aces | 1 |
| Final result | Creamline won in four sets |
Her production was impressive because she was playing her first official match with the team. Creamline already has an established system, so Santiago-Minowa understands that she must learn how her teammates move and communicate during live competition.
The Pvl Jaja Santiago debut was therefore about more than individual scoring. It also gave Creamline an early opportunity to test how its new middle blocker fits into the lineup.
Adjustments Remain Part of the Process
Santiago-Minowa has trained with Creamline for about two months, but training sessions and official Premier Volleyball League matches create different situations. She still needs time to become fully comfortable with the team’s defensive responsibilities and attacking patterns.
Her main areas for improvement include:
- Learning Creamline’s blocking system
- Adjusting to the team’s defensive movement
- Improving her timing on quick attacks
- Reading setter Kyle Negrito’s decisions
- Building stronger communication with her teammates
These details are especially important for a middle blocker. The position requires more than height and power. It also demands quick reactions, accurate movement and a clear understanding of when to close a block or approach for an attack.
Santiago-Minowa does not expect Creamline to change its entire system for her. Instead, she accepts that she must adjust to the structure that the Cool Smashers already use.
Connection With Kyle Negrito Is Crucial

One of Creamline’s priorities will be developing the partnership between Santiago-Minowa and setter Kyle Negrito. In the win over Nxled, Negrito recorded 31 excellent sets and scored six points.
A successful setter-middle combination depends heavily on timing. Negrito must learn the height, speed and position Santiago-Minowa prefers, while the middle blocker must begin her approach at the right moment.
Once their connection improves, Creamline can become more difficult to defend. A consistent attack through the middle may force opposing blockers to stay central, creating better opportunities for the team’s outside and opposite hitters.
Santiago-Minowa’s presence could also improve Creamline’s blocking against powerful attackers. Her 6-foot-5 frame gives the Cool Smashers valuable size at the net, but proper positioning will determine how effectively that advantage is used.
Nxled Match Reveals Strengths and Areas to Fix
Creamline controlled the opening two sets against Nxled before losing the third. The Cool Smashers recovered in the fourth set to complete the victory, but the dropped frame showed that the team still has areas to improve.
The match provided several positive signs:
- Santiago-Minowa immediately contributed as a scorer
- Creamline responded well after losing the third set
- Negrito continued to distribute the ball effectively
- The team gained experience with its new middle blocker
- Creamline showed multiple attacking options
However, one successful match does not complete the adjustment process. Opponents in the Premier Volleyball League will study Creamline’s rotations and look for ways to reduce Santiago-Minowa’s influence.
Creamline’s Best Form May Still Be Ahead
Santiago-Minowa’s 19-point debut showed her immediate value, but she remains focused on improving her timing, defense and connection with Kyle Negrito. Her height and experience give Creamline another strong attacker and blocking presence.
Creamline already secured a four-set win while Santiago-Minowa was still adjusting. As the team develops better chemistry and coordination, the Cool Smashers could become even stronger as the Invitational Conference unfolds.
